Zhu Zhu

Poet, Curator and Art Critic


Born in September, 1969. His works have been translated in English, French, Italian and Spanish; he won Shanghai Literature’s Poem of the Year in 2000, the second annual Anne Kao Poetry Award, Chinese Contemporary Art Awards-Critic Award, the Henry Luce Foundation Asian Poetry Writing and Translation Award and more. In 2003 and 2004, he was invited to participate in Val-de-Marne International Poetry Festival and Le Printemps des Poètes in France. He is the author of poetry anthologies To Another Planet (1994), Salt on Withered Grass (2000), Indigo Smoke (2004, French transtation by Chantal Chen-Andro), Leather Suitcase (2005), Story (2011), short story anthology Vertigo (2000), collection of short writings on art Empty City (2005), art critique anothology Personal Case: Artists Through the Eyes of a Critic (2008, augmented edition The Naissance of a Painting in 2010), Thirty Years of Adventures (co-author with Lv Peng, Gaoqianhui, 2010), A Grey Carnival: Chinese Contemporary Art Since 2000 (2013).

Some exhibitions he curated are Origin Point: A Retrospetive of Star Society (Today Art Museum, Beijing, 2007), Personal Case: Artists Through the Eyes of a Critic (SZ Art Center, Beijing, 2008), Reshaping History: New Chinese Art 2000-2009 (co-curator with Lv Peng, Gaoqianhui, China National Convention Center, Beijing, 2010), Fly Through the Troposphere: Memo of the New Generation of Painting (Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, 2011).
