15 Years Chinese Contemporary Art Award(CCAA) Forum

1. Independent Criticism in China and around the world

10:00-12:00 a.m.

In 2007, in order to encourage independent art criticism, CCAA launched the first art critic award in China.  6 winning critics have been chosen in the past 4 critic award selection.  During each year’s jury selecting process, the core of the jury discussion and debate lies in how China could establish an independent criticism system that is not dominated by the market force, it further addresses how independent criticism systems have been developed internationally and how these international experiences could have impact on China.  CCAA critic award juries and winners are invited to the forum. This forum is hosted by Gong Yan.


2. 1998-2013, wandering  around 15 years of Chinese contemporary art

From 1998 to 2013, Chinese contemporary art has transformed from a semi-underground stage to today’s stage of international recognition . This 15 years (1998-2013) is viewed as the most significant 15 years for both CCAA and Chinese contemporary art. We have invited two former CCAA directors, one of CCAA Fifteen Years exhibition curators, Mr. Li Xianting, and CCAA’s founder, Mr. Uli Sigg to join the panel discussion with winning artists.


3.Who sparks and ignites Chinese contemporary art  - contemporary art awards in China

Since China’s first international contemporary art award, CCAA, launched in 1998, China has witnessed the birth of various contemporary art-oriented awards and prizes. These awards and prizes are supported by different organisations:  museums, press groups, academies and colleges, and commercial brands. All of these awards and prizes have undoubtedly sparked and encouraged the growth and development of Chinese contemporary art. Meanwhile, they vary in selection standards, operational principles and targeted participants. This forum focuses on discussion about significant and influential contemporary art awards and prizes in China.


4.Data Art & Art archive

5:20-7:00 p.m.

In 15 Years Chinese Contemporary Art Award Exhibition, the representation of CCAA’s data and archive is conducted by an innovative new-media art installation together with a highly specific set of hardware equipments. Data art has been applied and manifested in the representation of contemporary art and contemporary art exhibitions at a notably growing pace. This forum will open discussions about the application of multi-media art in CCAA’s exhibition and how it explores visualisation of art data and art archives.
